The Brooklyn Dog # 7: The power of Oxytocin, Hot Dudes with Dogs, and the little lamb that stole the show

Check the trailer for Max. I really thought this was a joke, like an American Sniper spoof, but apparently it's a real movie about a German Shepherd suffering PTSD after a stint in Afghanistan. While watching Am Snipe I was very tuned into the war dogs roaming the dusty grounds (so nervous Coop was gonna clip one!); I guess now's my chance to watch a whole movie about one of them. And Lorelai Gilmore is in it! On Christmas 2011, while the rest of my family went to see War Horse, I sat it out in favor of rom-com New Year's Eve because on principle I refused to watch a movie starring a horse. (I can be kind of speciesist.) I guess I should probably see Max on account of my being a huge advocate of all things dog, but I kinda get the feeling I'm gonna be wincing the whole time.

The Brooklyn Dog # 6: Resqwalk, the app that donates $ every time you walk the dog

Have y'all heard about Resqwalk? It's a way to donate money to an animal shelter of your choice, just by logging a walk with your dog. And it's completely FREE—the app donates the $ for you, from a fully-funded Indiegogo campaign, plus ongoing corporate backing—all you have to do is hit the pavement. No dog? No problem (well besides the obvious emotional and spiritual one). Walking is walking, with or without canine; as long as you download the app and log your steps, you're making a difference. And now that it's finally getting nice out, you have no excuse.

On Resqwalk, you can donate to shelters all over the country. But from April to September, Park Slope for Pets is launching Steps Fur Pets, a ResQ partnership that features a different local Brooklyn rescue each month. (April: Foster Dogs NYC; May: Badass Brooklyn; June: Brooklyn Animal Action; July: ReeFuge; August: Sean Casey; September: Positive Tails)

Westminster Dog Show offers no joy for fans of a charming galoot [Times]

"Is the bloodhound’s exclusion because it is not classically adorable, with its sad, sunken eyes, jowly face and wrinkly neck? Is it the slobber? Does Nathan, and those before him, remind judges of the bloodhounds who pursued the beloved Paul Newman in “Cool Hand Luke”? Or is McGruff the Crime Dog too much of an authoritarian cartoon bloodhound to adore?"

The Brooklyn Dog # 1: All the News that's Fit to Sniff

A couple months back, I set up a Google alert for "dogs" because I am insane. I tried to explain myself on last week's episode of TLDR. Now I've decided to at least put my eccentricity to use and create an outlet for all this #dogcontent that's overcrowding my brain faster than pit bulls at a dog shelter (an example of dark dog humor).
